Eco-design & accessibility

Our approach

To us, a responsible website is one that delivers its purpose — presenting Scoria and its catalogue — with minimal resources, and that remains usable by everyone: with a keyboard as well as touch, with a screen reader, on a slow connection or an older device.

The two sides meet: static, lightweight, well-structured pages are both more frugal and more accessible. The approach extends to the app itself: Scoria is offline-first, works without an account and stores data on your device — the most frugal architecture is the one that doesn't call a server.

Eco-design

The approach follows the French General eco-design framework for digital services (RGESN) and the W3C Web Sustainability Guidelines: no JavaScript framework, no video, no fonts or scripts loaded from third-party servers.

• Pre-generated static pages, no browser framework (~1 KB of site JavaScript).
• Images served as WebP at their actual display size, lazy-loaded.
• Self-hosted variable WOFF2 fonts, Latin subset only — no third-party requests.
• Long browser caching (1 year) for immutable assets, compression and minification everywhere.
• Hosted in France (OVHcloud, Roubaix), on a low-carbon electricity mix.
• Self-hosted analytics in France, with no advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

Indicators measured on 22 July 2026 using the EcoIndex method (transferred weight, number of requests, page complexity):

The home page embraces a richly illustrated catalogue — an editorial choice; its weight was roughly halved in July 2026 (right-sized images, local fonts, minification) and is tracked with every change.

Accessibility

The site targets level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1). This is not a formal conformance statement, but a concrete approach, verified with every change to the site.

• Text contrast meeting level AA across all pages.
• Full keyboard navigation: skip link, visible focus indicator, screenshot zoom in an accessible dialog.
• Semantic structure (heading hierarchy, landmarks) and alternative text on informative images.
• The system "reduce motion" preference is honored.
• Language declared on every page, available in six languages.

An automated WCAG 2.1 AA check runs on a sample of pages with every change (12 pages, 0 errors as of July 2026; Lighthouse accessibility score 100/100 on the home page).
