French Tarot — score sheet

Rules

French Tarot for 3, 4 or 5 people. On each deal, one person takes and chooses a contract — Petite, Garde, Garde Sans or Garde Contre — then must reach a card-point target based on their oudlers (21, Petit, Excuse): 56 with none, then 51 · 41 · 36 with 1, 2 or 3.

With 5 people, the taker calls a king before the dog: whoever holds it becomes their partner. If the king is in the dog or the taker calls themself, the deal is played solo against four defenders.

Play the deal at the table, then enter the result: Scoria calculates the points and the taker / partner / defense split.

The highest score at the end wins.

How to count points

• Scoria handles the awkward deal math:
• Target by taker's oudlers: 56 (0 oudler), 51 (1), 41 (2), 36 (3).
• Margin = taker points − target. The contract succeeds when the margin is zero or positive.
• Base score = (25 + margin) × contract multiplier (Petite ×1, Garde ×2, Garde Sans ×4, Garde Contre ×6).
• Petit au bout: ±10 × multiplier for the side that wins the last trick with the Petit.
• Poignée: +20 (simple) / +30 (double) / +40 (triple), awarded to the side that wins the deal. With 5 people, announcement thresholds are 8 / 10 / 13 trumps.
• Slam: +400 announced and made, +200 made without announcement, −200 announced and failed.
• Split: with 3 or 4 people, the taker wins (or loses) that score against each defender. With 5 and a called partner, the taker receives 2 shares, the partner 1 share, and each defender the opposite 1 share. Solo with 5: the taker receives 4 shares. Every deal always sums to zero.
• Note: on a Petite, a half card point can produce a “.5” score — that's normal.
